DIANA'S TRAINING

My Daily Mile Training Summary

Training Programs

In June 2011, I signed up for a Long Distance Training Program (DTP) thru PR Training Programs. In November 2011, I signed up for the Winter/Spring DTP. In the Spring of 2012 I decided to go back to basics and signed up for Running 101/201. I'm concentrating on my fundamentals to build my endurance and become a stronger runner.

Still need to work on my endurance while swimming freestyle, but was able to swim 600 yards breaststroke in 29 minutes without stopping. Not as fast as in the pool, but the pool doesn't have a current. ;) Thing about open water swimming is the visibility is so bad (0%) that the Garmin kept losing the signal when my wrist was underwater. LOL

salt water lap pool + working out with one of my favorite people = awesome! Pretty relaxed, but I'm tired from a long day.

Easy ride to shake out the legs. Multi-tasked. Got my riding done during my bike fit. I had to ride so he could see things and then kept riding while he was doing other things. Just an estimate, but I think it's pretty close.

So this was the first time I've run off the bike (including at the gym). I was pleasantly surprised in how well I did. My breathing sounded terribly, but my HR pretty much stayed below target (I think all of the swimming is paying off) - except at the end - I was really getting hot. My coach had me do 4:00/1:00 run/walk intervals, which was doable (except for one when I lost count and thought I was supposed to be walking). My avg pace was about 30 seconds slower than my pace at CH tri last year when I ran the relay' and 10 seconds slower from the 5K on Memorial Day and both of those races were on fresh legs. Lots of people out running and biking. It was a great day to be out!

So today is my first official brick. I've done the TM then stationary bike, but it's not the same. Road the new Celebrating Heroes/IronGirl triathlon bike course. A lot of people are going to hate it, but I didn't mind the hills. You just keep pedaling until you reach the top. I was very surprised to see that I maxed at 30.9 mph on a downhill. I'm glad I didn't know that at the time - probably would have freaked me out to know I was going that fast. LOL Riding the course again next week and then following week is the race. Stoked!

Gorgeous day!

TM run. Hot, hot, hot in the gym. Really pushed my mental capabilities to get through this run. I tried zoning out and focusing on the building wall across the street. Should have stretched more - was feeling it in the legs from yesterday's long swim and Monday's bike trainer ride. Goal was 1 hour, but this is decent and I don't want to get hurt with only a few weeks until the race. I think final time was about 43 minutes (didn't have my Garmin). I think I actually ran farther because I always run faster than the treadmill moves.
